The problem with this parody as the Father's response is it doesn't even actually respond to the original song's lyrics. The father in that song says he will never give permission to the young man no matter what, while this song only complains about the young man's current life situation as not being good enough.

I hope that Benji gets a blessing of royalties for writing such a great song that other artists have been performing on the radio.

I like to call this "How you get your daughter to never speak to you again." There are a lot of assumptions in this. Not the least of which is that the dad's opinion matters all that much. Because she is not your property to dole out to who you perceive as worthy. The song is about a guy asking out of respect to the father as an effort to show he cares. Meanwhile in the original song Dad is trying to set her up with an actual creep that looks just like him. And that dude just straight up tries to touch her first time he met her. So I doubt he really has her happiness in mind as much as it's assumed. So if that is the kind of dynamic you support go off but don't be surprised when your daughter decides to go no contact.

Almost a decade now and this song is still awesome - love it. And the "I may be a Christian, but I'll go to prison, I'm not scared of doing hard time" is the best line ever. 😂👍 As a dad with a daughter in high school this parody gets more relatable by the day. On a side note, great voice and singing.

This bothers me more than it probably should. The father threatens killing him. I do not understand why making a death threat against your daughter's boyfriend / fiancé, whom she clearly loves and is choosing to be with, is being so openly celebrated by the majority of the commenters. There's no signs of abuse or even poor treatment of her by the boyfriend. He obviously loves and cares enough for her that he swallowed his pride and found the courage to ask the father for his daughters hand. So, basically what you're telling your daughter(s) is that you don't care what she feels and that she is not free to live her own life and make her own decisions. This parody song basically proves the point of the first song. A rude, egotistical, control-freak that doesn't even take into consideration his own daughters feelings. What makes that something to celebrate!? And how exactly is spreading intolerance, violence, hatred, and pain being a good Christian? I hope he does marry her anyway and daddy get's prison time for 'attempted' murder, showing his 'baby girl' the kind of devil her daddy truly is.
